Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Although the crowd was still going strong, after the fireworks & after glancing around a few shops - we hustled to catch the 11 p.m. trolly back to our campground. (See more OOB firework pics)
On Friday, we decided to start our sight-seeing day out on a fun note...ice-cream for breakfast in the streets of Portland...that's what I'm talking about!!
Portland is about 20 miles north of Old Orchard Beach, set on a peninsula extending into the Casco Bay. This city is full of history and quickly became one of our favorite spots. The Old Port waterfront features working fishing wharves along with restaurants and shops converted from warehouses. The day was filled with a tourist trolly ride, a boat trip, and a visit to a beautiful lighthouse.
Exhausted, we returned home to eat hotdogs around our campfire and closed the night out with, what else but...Maine blueberry pie. (more pics of Portland)
We were so blessed to discover a Steven Curtis Chapman concert on Saturday night. (Oh Yeah!!) The show was a Steven Curtis Chapman solo - and absolutely wonderful. He talked about his life while interspersing songs to tell his life story. Very relaxed and enjoyable.
Steven, his wife Mary Beth & their six children have truly been a blessing to so many lives. If you get a chance, check out their story and all the heartfelt children organizations they've built, worked for, and sponsered.
Sunday morning we were able to worship with a small community of Christ-followers at a confernece room at the Hampton Inn just down the street. We absolutely fell in love with this small group of maybe a dozen people who were loving, prayerful, and genuinly full of spirit & truth.
The rest of our time was spent exploring Old Orchard Beach and the nearby towns of Saco and Biddeford, ME (more pics of Saco/Biddeford)
Although our time in Old Orchard Beach comes to a close, we are not quite ready to leave this beautiful state. We are headed further south to the Kennebunkport/Wells Beach area of Maine where we plan to spend two weeks. Stay in touch for more Honeycutt adventures...
