Maine here we come!!

East Brighton, Vermont

Sadly the time had come to leave Vermont.   Of course it was only fitting that the morning we left there was a slow drizzle of rain, which only seemed to express our sadness to leave this beautiful state.   It had in fact rained the entire night before.  And just in case you don't know,  rain plus campground dirt & gravel equals nothing but messy.   Very messy!  So, by the time we had pulled up stakes, all of us -  (vehicles and humans alike) - needed a bath.   Luckily, it would be a short drive today.  Short, but in no way uneventful...

The rolling hills of Vermont are so gorgeous - picture perfect.

However, while great to admire, they are definitely not as much fun to drive on...especially driving "beauty & the beast" on such a rainy day.  I was in no way prepared for the day ahead...

As we approached the state of New Hampshire we came to a very steep incline.  When we reached the summit of the incline all we could see ahead of us was sky, nothing else.  ("Keith, I can't see anything... I can't see anything", is the only thing I remember saying as we moved blindly forward).

Suddenly... (just like when you ride a rollercoaster), we experienced the momentary delay that occurs before the big "heart in stomach" sudden drop as we rapidly descended.  I am telling you - people pay good money for this type of experience in amusement parks around the country!!  But, no lie - I still have sweaty, wake up in the middle of the night, nightmares about this one!!  (Maybe, just maybe, if we were driving a normal car we would go back and video this one just so you could experience it, but no way I would do this again with the RV).  You just had to be there.

The upside was that we were headed to one of our most favorite places, Maine, and thankfully the roads seemed to be not as steep & windy as we crossed the state line.  (Don't get me wrong, we can't wait to explore the state of New Hampshire, which has always been a "must do" on our list.  But our plan is to tackle this on the "flip-side" of our Northeastern trip.   Perhaps more to the flatter, coastal side of the of the state).

Finally we arrived & settled in Skowhegan/Cannan, located in central Maine.   We found this quiet, countryside a time to rest (get some much needed down time) and of course do the neccessaries of life - like laundry;  and of course clean both humans & vehicles.

But truly we really did fall in love with this sleepy little countryside.   We ventured out to ride bikes in nearby Waterville, ate "lobstah" stew in a favorite diner....and explored the famous Moxie Falls.    See more pics

For now, stay tuned...because we're headed to the coastland of Maine.  And, I don't know about you, but I can't wait!!

(Time period:  July 27th - August 4th;   Day 19 thru 27 of our Northeast trip)
